Desksurf

For remote workers in Barcelona who need a desk for a few hours or a day

A spare desk in a nearby business, booked by the slot, with the Wi-Fi and access described as they are

Desksurf is a plan for booking spare workspace inside businesses in one Barcelona neighbourhood. A worker would pay for a defined slot at a venue we have checked, knowing the Wi-Fi, the amenities, how to get in and how to cancel.

Tell us where you work from in Barcelona

If you run a business with spare desks, say so. Mail to this address goes to the project inbox and is read there. A reply may be written with the help of software.

Where it stands

  • Nothing is built and nothing can be booked.
  • No venue has agreed to host, and no worker has been asked.
  • Before a real booking there must be permission for each premises, insurance, a payment provider and a person who runs it. None is in place.
  • Coworking spaces in Barcelona already sell day passes on their own sites. Whether people would keep booking spare desks through a third party is not known; we found no public figure for it.
  • Nothing is for sale.

How a booking would work

Pick a slot
Venues would offer defined slots. You would pay for the slot you book.
Know what you are getting
Wi-Fi, amenities and access would be described truthfully for each venue, with a clear cancellation rule.
Turn up and work
The host would let you in. If access failed, support and any refund would be handled by Desksurf, not left to you and the host.
Company if you want it
You could state a preference for working near others. It would be optional.

Where it starts, and what it leaves for later

It would start with business venues that have permission to offer the space, in one neighbourhood. Private homes are a later question and are not part of the first version.

It would not promise that a slot costs less than a day pass elsewhere, or that you will make friends.
